  • Today, legendary singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen celebrates his 82nd birthday, and we’re the ones who get a present. Check out the title track from his upcoming release, You Want It Darker, out October 21st via Sony. A press release explains, “Cohen created this hypnotic groove with the addition of Montreal’s Cantor Gideon Zelermyer and the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue Choir, whose voices invoke a sound from Cohen’s youth.” And the album itself was produced by Cohen’s son, Andy, which makes it extra sweet. (I have to admit, there’s a little bit of nervousness with this release, ’cause the last time an iconic artist released a song on his birthday… well, you know.) Listen below. [Under the Radar]

  • On the other side of the sound spectrum, UK electronic duo Simian Mobile Disco share a new song today, too. Check out the single “Far Away From A Distance” from their forthcoming full-length, Welcome To Sideways. Via Facebook, the band say the album is “aimed squarely at the dancefloor.” Take it for a spin when it hits stores November 11th via their own Delicacies label. [Stereogum]

  • It’s hard to believe, but a lot of Beck‘s albums aren’t available on vinyl… until October 28th, that is. UMe have announced they’ll be reissuing his discography on vinyl, from Mellow Gold to Modern Guilt. (Wait, no Stereopathetic Soulmanure?) Odelay, Sea Change, and Guero are up first, with more to come at a later date. Call me when you reissue Golden Feelings. [Consequence of Sound]
  • Brooklyn’s Dirty Projectors have new music on the way, but they’re being very enigmatic about it. Via social media, they’ve shared a couple of clips. Today’s is a 45 second video of frontman Dave Longstreth’s distorted face turning left and right, in black and white. Watch below. The caption reads “What We Imagined And What We Became,” which could be the song title, an album title, a… lyric? Stay tuned for more news. [Under the Radar]
